Abilities: From his mother’s side of the family Mikhail has the ability to control the actions of people by using vocal commands. The person he wants to control is affected even if they cannot hear his voice, for his commands travel over high-frequency waves that can't be picked up by human ears. For example, Mikhail was able to make Clark Kent lose his footing by saying “trip” even though at the time, Clark was on the football field and he himself was situated in the stands. From his father’s side he received the ability to manipulate reality and the laws of the universe in such a way that his actions appear magical. The range of this power is nearly limitless and can be used for nearly any effect, such as turning something solid invisible, transforming something into something else entirely (coal into gold, water into stone, ect), or turning someone into dust merely my snapping his fingers. He is capable of flight, teleportation, fire control, weather control, ice control, time manipulation, animating inanimate objects, telekinesis and disrupting machinery, ect.

Brief History: Mikhail comes from a long line of people who could be called “black cats” or “walking luck,” depending on their intentions, their wants and desires and of course, those who live alongside them. A legend stemming from the Piatore region in the Balkans claims that the land was terrorized by these people for centuries, by people who could control the hand of luck. They did whatever it took to get what they wanted and that most likely included murdering, controlling people against their will and running rampant as if they alone ruled the place, which in a way, they nearly did. A century before Mikhail’s birth, the family fled the area to escape stigma and persecution after their village mysteriously burned to the ground. Only then fearing for their safety, they changed their name by writing it backwards, so that it became Mxyzptlk instead of Kltpzyxm. Although they could have easily protected themselves with their abilities, they were no longer able to defend themselves in such a way, thanks to a plague of locusts venturing too close. The locusts produced the same frequency used by their powers and as it turned out, that was the one thing that could defeat them and take away what was theirs.

He was born and raised in a war-torn country in the Balkans, the only surviving child of Elena Mxyzptlk and a father who he had never once been introduced to. Elena was a struggling woman who did what she could for money and he was told frequently by his mother that she had been pregnant over seven times before him, and each time she had suffered a miscarriage. Finally, when she was well into her thirties, she was able to carry a baby to term and gave birth to the son who would become her one and only pride and joy. She named the squealing baby boy Mikhail, after the great grandfather who had once reigned supreme over his family of talented men, women and children, right up until the swarming beasts stole away their talent.

Brought up by his mother and her father, Mikhail called a three room house in the midst of a broken down city home. At the age of six he began to show the first spark of the power that had been lost to the family since that fateful night that took place over a hundred years prior to his existence. At such a young age, Mikhail didn’t know that he’d done anything spectacular when he told a man on the street to let his mother have some of his money, any amount that he could part with. She needed money, needed it desperately. After digging into his pockets with a confused look marring his face, the stranger shoved a handful into Elena’s chest and took off like a spooked horse. That afternoon, she lifted Mikhail into her arms and praised him like she’d never done before. For the first time in her life, she was overjoyed. Her son was powerful. Her son was a force to be reckoned with. Somehow, he’d reclaimed their gift.

He was thirteen when his mother was found in an alley with her throat slit wide open. With his grandfather ill, Mikhail was the only one left who could bring in the money that they needed if they were to survive. Grief stricken over Elena’s violent end he took to scavenging the streets and stealing from buildings, people and whatever else he could empty. Using his power without holding back or setting limits, Mikhail turned himself into a fierce predator, when he had once been a sweet boy with a desire to go to school and learn whatever he could.

It was his seventeenth birthday and his grandfather had finally submitted to his age. He sat at his bedside until the man’s eyes closed, with no intention of ever opening again. Although Mikhail had wept at his mother’s funeral, he shed not a single tear at his grandfather’s, for he was determined to not look the part of a sniveling child. Set on dropping out of school and going back out onto the streets, Mikhail would have never thought that he’d be on a plane directed at the United States, all because of Lionel Luthor discovering what he could do and handing over a scholarship that was historically earmarked for future Nobel prize winners, and not constant “C” students.

Settled in with a family in Smallville, Kansas, Mikhail was enrolled in Smallville High and immediately started an underground gambling ring. He used his powers to control the results of every game that was to be bet on and it was during his first week that he met Chloe Sullivan in a deserted field house, where she bet $80 for Smallville to win a football game. He accepted her wager and they both returned to the game. In the stands, Mikhail beheld Clark Kent, the quarterback, and muttered a single word, low and unable to be heard by anybody but himself. “Trip.” Needless to say, Clark tripped and knocked over another player, hurting him severely. Shortly after the game he paid Lex a visit and the son of the man who had taken him out of his broken down home questioned him and asked why his father would award such a prestigious award to a barely average student. He wanted to know what Lionel saw in him and in response to that question he replied with a simple answer: “Potential you do not see on a report card, Mr. Luthor.” Before exiting the study, Mikhail caused Lex to cut his finger with the knife that he was using to slice a lime, without Lex taking notice to the teenager’s command of “Cut.”

After going into the Smallville Torch office to talk to Chloe, she revealed that her bet was part of her investigation into a high school football betting ring and she told him that she wanted him to give her an exclusive. He agreed on the terms that she keep his name out. He then placed a large bet on the next Metropolis Sharks game for her, hoping to win her favor. Following the game Chloe arrived with an armload of shopping bags and told Mikhail about how exciting it was to win a bet. Mikhail, having no desire to have his pastime ruined, suggested she not spoil the fun and stop writing the article. Chloe refused and Mikhail, upset that she would not do as he requested, pulled her close and used his power to force her to kiss him. He left her with a warning of: “This is me asking you nicely. Now, you are going to drop that article whether you want to or not”.

Clark, never having tripped before, told his friend that he felt like he couldn't control his legs on the field and Chloe told him that Mikhail forced her to kiss him. With this knowledge they began to investigate Mikhail's background, but a search of his name provided no results. However, Chloe typed his name backwards and pulled up an article about the region he was from. It was revealed that he came from a line of people who had a history of being able to control luck. The only thing that stopped them was a plague of locusts. Reading this, Clark suggested that they turn Mikhail over to LuthorCorp because he was running illegal bets. He did just that.

Calling him to his study, Lex told Mikhail that he had decided to send him back to his home country. Mikhail, not satisfied with this decision, used talk of his ability to make Lex let him stay. Lex wanted to know what Mikhail could do and Mikhail challenged him to bet on Clark. If the Crows lost, he would get one million dollars and citizenship, but if they won, Lex would find out what Mikhail was capable of. Leaving the mansion, Mikhail paid a visit to Clark in his loft. Knowing that Clark turned him in, he told him that he had a lot of money riding on the game. Clark, thinking himself to be safe, for he was nearly invincible, let his guard down. It was a mistake. Deciding to reveal his powers, Mikhail ordered Clark to choke, and as a result Clark gasped and struggled for breath. As he suffocated, Mikhail told him that he would play, and that he would lose the game, and that he would not tell anyone else about him, less more people get hurt. Choosing to depart, he told Clark that he could breathe, and he regained his breath.

During the game Mikhail suddenly heard a high frequency and covered his ears in pain. Trying to influence the players, he found that it would not work. The Crows pulled ahead and Mikhail got up to investigate. He came across Chloe and a struggle was naturally created. The Crows were one touchdown away from winning, but Mikhail walked out onto the field during a timeout to show Clark Chloe's press pass and warn him that if they scored another touchdown he would kill her. Just when the play was about to start, Clark X-rayed the wall of the field house and caught sight of Mikhail holding a knife to Chloe's throat. He threw the last pass, super speeded off the field, shoved Mikhail into a locker and cut Chloe loose, fast enough to reappear back on the field in the same position without anybody even noticing. The pass was caught and the Crows won the State championship.

Feeling weak and defeated, Mikhail was taken to the LuthorCorp Plaza, where he and Lex rode the elevator to a secure floor. Mikhail admitted that he had lost his ability, but Lex assured him that he was taking him to a place where it could be recovered and that Mikhail would not be alone. The elevator stopped on Level 33.1.

LuthorCorp's Level Three was what the residents called "a nice stay. Gourmet food, satellite TV, and a nifty little green cocktail" placed in the neck three times a day, to boost the powers of metahumans. This was where Mikhail was held against his will until he turned twenty two. Lex knew that he would be a powerful weapon and had his team experiment on him, almost on a daily basis, with the hope that they would find a way to restore his ability. For five years Mikhail went through hell, being exposed to never ending tests, needles that poked and prodded, drugs that were forced down his throat or injected into his arms, into his neck.

At one point, Mikhail told one of Lex’s scientists to stick herself and see what it felt like, to which the woman obeyed. Amazed and proud of himself, he went for the door. Throwing orders at the guards and the nurses, the doctors, the place erupted in chaos as people shot themselves, stabbed through their own flesh and fell to the floor in heaps.

Mikhail discovered that while his mother was very human, his father was not. He was born in the fifth dimentional realm of Zrfff, a place where magic rather than technology and science ruled. It might have been Luthor’s injections that beckoned his dormant abilities to surface but no matter, when Mikhail escaped he was not forgiving and teamed up with Molly Griggs to help put an end to 33.1. Now more powerful than ever but still not up to his full potential, Mikhail was a force to be reckoned with when Oliver Queen found and tried to recruit him. Convinced that Green Arrow was working along with Lex Luthor, he became enraged and had to be knocked out by Oliver in order for Molly to escape.

Eventually cooling off enough to not want to use his abilities to tear apart anything and everything that crossed his path, Mikhail became more mischievous than malevolent, as doing anything purely evil would get old fast. He spent most of his time in Europe, concealing his presence from Lex Luthor and annoying and bothering people rather than outright harming them.
